A study of level of sexual dimorphism in ear length, width and index for both left and right sides among elderly Vietnamese population

Lam Ngoc Anh, Tran Ngoc Anh

Tóm tắt

Objectives: To evaluate the level of sexual dimorphism in ear length, width and index for both left and right sides among elderly Vietnamese population. Materials and methods: Research on 15 corpses (9 males and 6 females) preserved at Department of Anatomy, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine. Data were analyzed using Stata version 14 using independent sample t-test and Pearson correlation. Results: Mean age 70.67 ± 13.24. No significant differences were observed in the length, width and index of the ear in both sides. The sexual dimorphism was not significant in all variables of ear in both sides (p > 0.05); There was a close correlation between the left and right sides all variables; in which, strong correlations were found in ear length and width, moderate correlation was seen in ear index. Conclusion: The research showed no significant sexual dimorphism in length, width and index of ear in Vietnamese population; but there was a strong correlation between both sides in all variables. * Keywords: Sexual dimorphism; Ear length; Ear width; Ear index.
